It's All About The TaoWhat is The TaoThe word Tao [Pronounced; Dow] means “the way” or “the path”. Taoism is a Chinese philosophy that has been around for at least 2500 years. ‘Lao Tzu’ was no doubt an exalted philosopher that was able to put the ideas of Taoism into words but he was very clear that words cannot explain ‘The Tao’. It’s kind of like...”What can words possibly say about things that are not words? Or like, what can sounds say about silence?” I have lots of books on Taoism. As a matter of fact my son’s middle name is Tao. For some reason it just sits right with me. The interesting thing about studying Taoism is you can never really explain it. It’s more of a feeling then anything and the funny thing is when you read Taoist books you can find them a bit confusing at first because the teachings are written in enigmas and paradoxes. I believe it’s so that you can learn not to identify yourself with anything including yourself. Yet, at the same time, when you study Taoism you end up having a real sense of belonging...to the universe. When people ask me about Taoism I usually explain it this way... “It is about flowing with the universe in a peaceful way and to be in balance with all things. I always kind of think of ‘Taoism’...kind of like floating down a stream in an inner tube. Meandering around every twist and turn and traveling the same speed as the stream. Never knowing what’s around each corner. Sometimes, like life, it’s rough with rapids and sometimes it’s quiet and calm. Without a paddle you’re not trying to go faster, slower or choose a direction. You just allow, and trust, the ‘river of life’ to take you where you need to go. Just try your best to sharpen your six senses, and enjoy the human experience. “ What does spirituality have to do with food? Some people believe that food cannot make you spiritual, only if you are spiritual will your food choices improve. But I believe it could be the other way around. As you eat healthier and healthier your body becomes cleaner and cleaner. The act of eating healthier is an act of self love. As you begin to heal yourself...a sense of the inner spark re-awakens. It is the spark of life and not only do you begin to feel alive but you can also feel your vibration rise, not just on a cellular level, but on an overall energetic level as well. |
